Denver Social Media Marketing Group Links Search Engine Optimization (SEO) to Strategy Plans

By in Online Marketing, Social Marketing,

In April, 2013, Denver’s premier social media for business group focused its presentation on SEO, the fourth chapter in their social media marketing plans. Webolutions® Director of New Media Strategies, Mike Hanbery, led the presentation. The material and discussion comprised Chapter Four of the custom Social Media Strategy Plans group members are developing.

The group meets on the third Friday of each month at at the South Metro Denver Chamber (@bestchamber). While irreplaceable benefits of attending in person include business networking and the handout for the plan, live and archived updates are available on Twitter! Just follow the Hashtag #SMGDenver. You can even tweet in questions by using that Hashtag!

Here, by way of Twitter, are some highlights from the presentation about SEO and social media:

20% of links pointing to your website should be relevant industry links. Earned links rule – content is king to drive links. – @AWildGreenYonder
SEO experts generally recommend that a website’s inbound link profile include at least one fifth of links from websites that are content-relevant. Google’s algorithm updates over the past 11 months have elevated the importance of content marketing and diminished rote link acquisition tactics for SEO. The “answer?” Create great content and get it shared. Create and execute a content marketing plan that uses social media as a principal publishing and engagement tool.

“I don’t care what other people say about you, I care about what you say about yourself” – @thedigitalgypsy
Foreshadowing July’s topic, Chapter Seven: Generating & Responding to Comments on Social Media, the group discussed local search marketing and online review sites as part of the convergence of social media and SEO. Establishing a consistent brand message and proliferating it through social media marketing pre-empts and counteracts “black hat” tactics by competitors, which can include negative comments about a business with no basis in reality.

“Are all links created equal?” Short answer: no. – @DebDrive
Google and other search engines score website domains. Some are stronger and more authoritative than others. One link from 100 different domains are stronger than 100 links from one domain, regardless of that domain’s strength.
